GENERAL CARE & CLEANING OF UNIQUE STOCK HIDES These Leathers from Unique Fabrics are best described as ‘leathers with character’ as they proudly bear the hallmarks of their origins without disguising imperfections. Leather is a natural, imperfect product; a raw material that has come from an animal. During its life permanent marks, ie scratches, insect bites, scars, stains & folds, are caused by different factors. However it is these imperfections that make it beautiful and differentiate it from synthetic imitations. Every piece of leather is unique, and rather than wearing out, it becomes more beautiful over time if properly cared for. Each hide has a unique appearance, and as pieces of furniture are produced using several hides, colour and texture differences are inevitable.

SADDLEBAG & CROCODILE are European buffalo hide leather. The beauty of buffalo leather is in the natural characteristics of the hides, its different colour nuances, little faults such as insect bites & scratches, and it’s unique grain structure. Crocodile has an embossed design. Hides have been tanned using a vegetable-based solution, then hand treated with oil, which leaves the rough characteristics of the leather still visible. These designs are produced purely with aniline dyes, so that none of these characteristics are hidden. This rough-looking, sturdy leather will only become more beautiful with age. Hide size: 3.1 - 4.1 sq. mts approx (half) Thickness: 1.3 - 1.5mm Use: Upholstery

Cleaning: Spilled liquids must be mopped up immediately by dabbing the leather very slightly and left to dry in its own time. If the leather has been damaged by moisture or discoloured, hides can be treated with a wax product specifically made to repair this type of damage. This treatment gives your piece of furniture a very deep colour and adds a protective coating.

EEL is a top grain European cowhide leather which has been embossed with a classic eel pattern. It is an aniline dyed hide with a protective glossy finish which provides some water repellency. Slight colour differences in each hide can be expected. Eel passes the BS 5852 part:1 flammability test and has good lightfastness. Hide size: 4.8 - 5.0 sq. mts approx (full) Thickness: 1.1 - 1.3mm Use: Upholstery

Cleaning: Remove dirt and/or soiling as quickly as possible to prevent residues. Spills can be gently dabbed with a dry cloth. Clean leather regularly with a damp cloth, gently using a wiping motion with a very mild soap solution. Dry and polish the leather with a soft, dry cloth. Never saturate the leather. Never rub vigorously or in one place. This will damage the surface. Avoid chemical cleaning agents containing solvents such as alcohol and benzene. Test all cleaning agents in an inconspicuous area before cleaning. Do not use cleaning agents sold for treating woven fabrics.

COOBER PEDY & WIMMERA Remove dirt and/or soiling as quickly as possible to prevent residues. Clean leather regularly with a damp cloth, gently using a circular motion with a very mild soap solution. BELLA-DURA INFO

MESSES AND SPILLS ARE NO MATCH FOR BELLA-DURA

Because Bella-Dura fabrics are made with solution-dyed yarns its inherent stain resistance will never wear off. As a result cleaning Bella-Dura is easy and safe - even with bleach. However, a mild soap-and-water solution is all that is required for most spills, so whether it’s betadine in a healthcare environment or wine in a restaurant or at home, Bella-Dura is so easy to clean.

QUICK AND EASY CLEANING METHOD

1. Apply a cleaning solution of 1 part soap to 10 parts water to the fabric.
2. Rinse with clear water to remove any soapy residue*.
3. Blot with a clean, dry cloth and allow time to air dry.
4. Repeat as necessary until the stain is gone.

Some stubborn stains may require light agitation with an upholstery cleaning brush or toothbrush. Never use stiff bristles or wire brushes, as they may damage the fabric. To prevent soil build-up, frequent vacuuming is recommended. *Remember to always rinse with clear water to remove all soap residue. Remaining residue attracts dirt, if proper rinsing has not occurred fabrics will get soiled again much more quickly.

BLEACH CLEANING Because Bella-Dura is a solution-dyed fabric, the fibers are bleach cleanable without risk of fading or harm, making even more challenging spills easy to treat. Quickly clean and disinfect using a diluted bleach solution. The recommended dilution is four parts water to one part bleach.
